In the morning we had our breakfast around 8.15 and hopped on the bus to Matos-Cheirinhos. We arrived at the apartment where we are storing our supplies and had a quick energiser and logistics meeting. In separate teams we made our way to the "Z" zone and the children's play park to begin work.
At "Z" zone we finished nailing the logs together for the clothes line and BBQ area. Then we spread a trap on the ground for the gravel, which was delivered by a truck.
Senhor Antonio, one of the residents of the neighbourhood, taught a group of volunteers how to make cement and they continued to refurbish the platform.
In the kids park we started to dig holes with pick axes and shovels to make the foundations of another clothes line. We made it to around 45cm but the ground was too hard and there were many rocks so we adopted a plan B to ask for help from the council to dig the holes with proper tools.
We had a lunch break at 1pm and continued working at 2pm. Then we measured and cut the tarp to fit the areas necessary and nailed it to the wood logs. We continued spreading the gravel over the tarp area and digging cementing a table into the ground.
The other group were repairing the benches in the kids park with sandpaper and paint and also fixing the broken planks with new wood and nails.
Then around dour we packed up all the tools and returned them to the apartment and had a quick debriefing.
After getting the bus back to "O Século" and showering we got the train to Cascais and had an intercultural party at Rota Jovem.
